Two members of the School of Information Studies (iSchool) community will be recognized at the third annual One University Awards Ceremony. The event brings the University together to celebrate the faculty, staff and student recipients of the University’s most prestigious awards and honors. The ceremony will be held on Friday, April 12 in Hendricks Chapel from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m., with a reception to follow in the lobby of the Heroy Geology Laboratory.
“The One University Awards ceremony is truly a celebration of how the contributions and accomplishments of individuals elevate the whole University,” says Chancellor Kent Syverud. “Their achievements are in widely different areas of endeavor, but they are united by their spirit of excellence and commitment to Syracuse University.”
Lifetime Achievement Award
iSchool Dean Liz Liddy will be presented with the Chancellor’s Citation Award for Lifetime Achievement. The Chancellor’s Citation awards were first presented to members of the University community in 1979 in recognition of outstanding achievement in teaching, scholarship and creative work.
Liddy has spent more than 30 years as a faculty member and researcher at the iSchool. As dean, she presided over the iSchool during a period of tremendous growth, increasing undergraduate enrollment by 71 percent and graduate enrollment by 66 percent. During her tenure, the iSchool created New York State’s first graduate certificate program in data science, and the school recently debuted a new undergraduate minor in data analytics. In addition, she has helped raise more than $26.2 million for funding research and development. In September, 2018, Liddy announced that she would retire from Syracuse at the end of the 2018-2019 acaemic year.
Student-Athlete Award
This award is given to the senior female and male students with the highest cumulative grade point average over their careers as student-athletes. iSchool graduate student Lennart (Len) Zeugner, a member of the men’s soccer team, is among the award recipients. Zeugner is enrolled in the iSchool’s M.S. program in applied data science. Among his accomplishments on the team, Zeugner has earned All-ACC Third Team honors, and served as team co-captain.
Other Awards Presented
In addition to the Chancellor’s Citation awards and the Student-Athlete award, other awards being presented include The Forever Orange Award, the Chancellor’s Award for Public Engagement and Scholarship, announcement of Meredith Professorships, the Teaching Recognition Award, the Diversity and Inclusion Award, and the Tolley Medal.
Also acknowledged during the ceremony will be the University Scholars, senior class and school and college marshals; Remembrance and Lockerbie scholars; emeriti faculty and University employees who celebrated 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 years of service in 2018.
