The Fall Career Fair at the School of Information Studies (iSchool), held on Tuesday, September 20 in the Carrier Dome, was the largest career event hosted by the School to date.

Over 50 employers were in attendance, representing a wide range of global and local corporations, and were recruiting students for both internships as well as full-time positions. Many of the recruiters at the event were iSchool alumni themselves, returning to campus to interview and meet with the next generation of talent.

Attracting both graduates and undergraduates, the fair broke attendance records, with over 520 students attending during the fair’s four-hour time slot in the Dome.

“I am thrilled with the number of students who attended the career fair this year and appreciate all of the support they receive from the iSchool community as they seek internships and full-time opportunities,” said Sarah Weber, Director of Employer Relations at the iSchool. “It was very exciting to have industry partners from a variety of fields travel to Syracuse University to meet and recruit iSchool students.”

The iSchool boasts a 93% job placement rate (based on a 3-year rolling average) for undergraduate students, as well as one of the highest starting salaries on campus for those students, at nearly $63,000. Over a third of undergraduate students credit iSchool career fairs and on-campus recruiting events for their success for landing the first job after graduation.

“Recruiting is one component of the multi-faceted collaborations the iSchool has with our industry partners,” notes Weber. “We are excited to be able to work collectively with these companies to provide students with employment opportunities and meet the company’s hiring needs.”

At the beginning of the semester leading up to the Career Fair, the iSchool’s dedicated Career Services Office hosted a number of events and preparation workshops to help students get ready for their time with recruiters.

“It was gratifying to see our several weeks of intense career fair preparation culminate into such a successful event for our iSchool students,” said Christopher Perrello, Career Services Coordinator at the iSchool. “We conducted a handful of workshops addressing résumés, cover letters, and interview prep, along with three résumé triage sessions within the span of two short weeks.”
