Data science skills are crucial to solving big data problems in in a wide range of fields: scientific research, defense intelligence, customer behavior, medical diagnosis, risk management, and more. As the field grows, CAS in Data Science graduates are shaping data science practices and standards.

What you will learn
The CAS in Data Science is a 15-credit program that focuses on handling data through its full lifecycle: architecting, acquiring, analyzing, and archiving. The program prepares you for interdisciplinary work focused on managing big data using information technologies as tools.
Elective credits can be selected from such areas as collaboration, digital curation, information assurance, project management, research, scripting, statistics, and information visualization
This certificate required 15 graduate credits. All course are 3 graduate credits unless specified otherwise.
Combine with an iSchool Master's
While you can take the CAS in Data Science as a standalone program, credits earned in the CAS in Data Science can be used toward a master’s degree at the iSchool if you want a more in-depth learning experience. You can incorporate CAS classes into an iSchool master’s curriculum, which means you can graduate with a certified and highly marketable skill set without taking extra classes.

Online iSchool students have access to the same faculty and degree as our campus students - it’s just in a different delivery mode.
The online format of the program combines live weekly classes, multimedia coursework, and collaborative group learning exercises. The innovative learning technology platform helps students cultivate lifelong professional relationships and personally interact with a worldwide community of students and alumni—all while having the flexibility to continue working full time.
