This is it, seniors. 10 more weeks until graduation weekend. The final stretch.
Now, we’re not here to make you sentimental, nor to provide a compelling retrospective of all we’ve experienced as iSchoolers over the past four years. We’ll save that dubious honor for another student blogger.
No, we’re here to announce this year’s iSchool Convocation Speaker. The iSchool Senior Squad, advisors, and Dean Liddy have spent months deliberating, and we finally received confirmation from our selection last week.
Your 2018 iSchool Commencement Speaker will be… Travis G. Mason ‘06!
Here’s a little info on Travis to whet your appetite for his speech in May.
Here at the iSchool, we’re all about taking your passion and combining it with IT. Travis is passionate about emerging technology, and that interest has guided him to some incredible opportunities shaping policy for things like advanced health devices, airborne wind turbines, self-flying and self-driving vehicles. He’s worked for Booz Allen Hamilton, Google X, and currently serves as the Vice President of Public Policy for Airbus – the international aerospace pioneer that designs and builds many of the aircraft flying in the sky and in space.
As a speaker, Travis is motivational and captivating. He even spoke at the August 2012 Syracuse Opening Convocation, evoking Drake with his YOLO-inspired rhetoric. He plans to skip the Drake this time, though.
What’s even more impressive is what Travis did while he was a student at Syracuse. He co-founded the OrangeSeeds leadership organization, was chosen to be a Remembrance Scholar, and also served as the President of Student Association as a senior. He truly bleeds Orange. We think. We didn’t ask him that specifically.
All in all, Travis embodies the iSchool spirit better than anyone else we could have picked. We are thrilled to have him speak at our commencement this May, and we hope you’re excited too!
