Faculty members and Ph.D. students from the School of Information Studies (iSchool) are among the finalists announced for the paper and poster competition at the 2017 iConference, held by the iSchools Organization.

Best Completed Research Paper

The winner in the Completed Research Paper category will receive the Lee Dirks Award for Best Paper and a cash prize of $5,000 provided by Microsoft. The award honors the memory of Lee Dirks, a long-time friend and supporter of the iConference.

Assistant Professor Lu Xiao was selected as a finalist for the research paper award for her paper, Writing to Persuade: Analysis and Detection of Persuasive Discourse, co-authored with Taraneh Khazaei and Robert Mercer from the University of Western Ontario.

Most Interesting Preliminary Results Paper

This award goes to the author of the most intriguing paper in the preliminary results category.

Associate Professor Bei Yu, Research Analyst Yatish Hegde, and Ph.D. student Yingya Li were selected as finalists for their paper, CORA: A Platform to Support Citation Context Analysis.

The winners will be announced at the conference, which takes place March 22-25, in Wuhan, China. Finalists were selected by the papers and posters track chairs, in consultation with the program chairs.

An annual presentation of the iSchools organization since 2005, the iConference brings together scholars and researchers from around the world to examine critical information issues in contemporary society. The 2017 theme is Effect, Expand, Evolve: Global Collaboration Across the Information Community. This year, the iConference is jointly hosted by the Wuhan University School of Information Management and the Sungkyunkwan University Library and Information Science and Data Science Department.
