The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) has awarded Syracuse University School of Information Studies student Katie O’Connell G’11 a travel scholarship to attend the ACRL conference in Philadelphia, March 30 through April 2, 2011.

“I’m interested in attending ACRL for both the programs and networking opportunities,” O’Connell said. “I’m graduating this year and hope to work in a special collections library, so the ACRL and its focus on academic libraries is a good fit with my interests.”

O’Connell was one of 10 recipients awarded $600 to cover travel and accommodation expenses as well as a complimentary registration to attend the ACRL conference. In addition, she was invited to a special program for scholarship recipients, featuring Jean-Claude Bradley, associate professor of chemistry and e-learning coordinator at the College of Arts and Sciences at Drexel University.

O’Connell of Ithaca, N.Y., will graduate with an M.S. in Library and Information Science and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Digital Libraries in May. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Carleton College in 2005.
