Syracuse University School of Information Studies (iSchool) alumna, Eleanor Frierson G’73, was recently named the 2010 “Federal Librarian of the Year” by the Federal Library and Information Center Committee (FLICC) of the Library of Congress.
Frierson currently works as Deputy Director of the National Agricultural Library (NAL) and was honored for her leadership and direction of NAL, as well as her dedication to the Science.gov Alliance. As co-chair of the alliance, Frierson has overseen major enhancements to the site, expansion of its valuable content and the development of key policies.
Frierson was honored at the 28th Annual FLICC Forum on Federal Information Policies on May 17 at the Library of Congress in Washington. According to the FLICC, awards are given annually to librarians using innovative ways to fulfill the information demands of government, business, scholarly communities, the American public, and citizens worldwide.
Before coming to NAL in 2000, Frierson’s distinguished professional career included service as Chief of the Bureau of Library and Information Services of the International Labour Office in Geneva, Switzerland and as a library staff member at the International Monetary Fund, the U.S. Department of the Interior and Syracuse University. She has continually nurtured partnerships across government and has advocated tirelessly for federal libraries and the value of open access to information.
Frierson received her B.A. from Oberlin College and her Master’s in Library Science from the Syracuse iSchool.
