The iBand, a musical group made up of faculty, staff, and a student from the Syracuse University School of Information Studies, has made it into the fourth round of voting in the 2010 Syracuse New Times Syracuse Area Music Awards (Sammys) People’s Choice Awards.

The iBand is made up of guitarist Paul Brenner, assistant dean for advancement; keyboardist Jason Dedrick, associate professor; guitarist Dave Dischiave, director of the M.S. in information management program; drummer Steve Inzer G’11, guitarist Dave Molta, director of the B.S. in information management and technology; bassist Jeffrey Stanton, associate dean for research and doctoral studies. All members of the band provide vocals as well.

The iBand is currently one of 32 bands in the area that have made it to this round. Each week, half of the bands are eliminated based on the number of votes they receive. To survive the cuts, they need our votes.

Winners will be announced during the 2010 Syracuse Area Music Awards Show at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 8 at the OnCenter in Syracuse.

The iBand emerged from informal jam sessions in the iSchool and band members’ homes. One of their first public performances was at former iSchool Dean Raymond F. von Dran’s retirement celebration on May 4, 2007, in Hinds Hall. Since then, the iBand has become the resident band for student welcome back receptions, fund-raisers, faculty retreats/planning days, and iSchool gatherings of all kinds.

A typical performance includes many covers of classic rock hits as well as some originals, written by Stanton.

They have their own fan page on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/iSchool-iBand/272843681648; and have many of their performances posted on YouTube.
