The Alumni Office at the School of Information Studies (iSchool) is expanding its traditional Summer Shindig gathering to include our nation’s capital this year.
The events, for all iSchool students, alumni, and their guests, will be held in New York City on Wednesday, July 11th, and in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, July 12th.
“We’ve always felt that the New York event was a great opportunity to bring iSchool alumni together with current students, and with the internship supervisors of those students,” said Julie Walas, director of student and alumni engagement at the iSchool. “So this year we decided to expand that and bring the spirit and energy to D.C., where we also have a large concentration of alumni as well as students completing their summer internships.”
The New York event will be held, as in years past, on the rooftop bar at Beer Authority on West 40th St. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. on July 11th, and an online RSVP is requested.
In Washington, D.C., the event will be held at the Top of the Yard rooftop bar at the Hampton Inn, located at 1265 First Street SE. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. on July 12th, with an online RSVP also requested.
“This year will also be special because we’ll be saying ‘goodbye’ to Barbara Settel,” noted Walas.
Settel, who is executive director of alumni relations at the iSchool, has worked for Syracuse University for over 30 years.
“Barb is retiring on July 13th, and these will be her last alumni events with us,” Walas said.
