School of Information Studies (iSchool) Assistant Professor of Practice Anthony Rotolo has been named to the “12 to Watch in 2012” list in the January issue of Central New York magazine.

The list covers a dozen Syracuse-area professionals, all under the age of 40, who “share a sense of engagement and high energy, all centered on their hopes for Central New York,” according to the list description.

“It is an honor to be included in the company of these inspiring new leaders,” said Rotolo.  “As a Central New York native, I am very pleased to know that my work has had a positive impact on the community that has offered me so many tremendous opportunities.”

At the iSchool, Rotolo’s research and coursework centers on social media and the study of real-time information. Last fall, he was named “Young Technologist of the Year” by the Technology Alliance of Central New York.

Rotolo is passionate about connecting students to technology. As he explains to Central New York Magazine about the creation of one of his iSchool courses, Star Trek and the Information Age, “it was actually created, in part, as a way to introduce issues related to science and technology to students who may not have previously considered these options.”

“Anthony’s on the leading edge and has had a tremendous influence, both on local companies as well as at the national level,” said iSchool Dean Elizabeth D. Liddy. “I am thrilled that he has been recognized.”

In addition to his faculty position at the iSchool, Rotolo is also a cofounder of enormo.us, a Syracuse-based creative agency that specializes in social media consulting, interactive design, digital video and animation.
