The New Explorations in Information and Science (NEXIS) lab at the School of Information Studies (iSchool) will host a Future Friday event on February 14 to demonstrate the latest advancements in their projects focused around emerging technologies.
As a part of the NEXIS mission, students are working on a variety of projects that encompass the latest technological developments; including 3D printing, Google Glass, drones, andgraphical programming environments. Students will have the opportunity to demo their projects to visitors while sharing insight about the upcoming projects taking place in the lab.
“I hope that students understand that we are working on technologies at the edges of our field. Whether that be technology, communications, art or design, we work with these concepts and apply their relevance to the future,” said Anthony Rotolo, Assistant Professor of Practice at the iSchool and head of the NEXIS lab.
The crew will also be creating “Busties” for visitors – a model of the person’s head created by a 3D printer. Isaac Budmen, Syracuse University alumnus and co-author of The Book on 3D Printing, created the concept of “Busties” as a 3D printed selfie created by scanning the subject’s head and replicating it on a 3D printer.
