School of Information Studies (iSchool) faculty members Lee McKnight and Anthony Rotolo received awards at last night’s Celebration of Technology Banquet held by the Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY).

TACNY is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote excellence in technology in Central New York. The Alliance organizes various programs and events to bring Central New York’s technical community together.

Associate Professor McKnight was awarded Technology Project of the Year for his work with the Wireless Grid Innovation Testbed (WiGiT). Assistant Professor of Practice Anthony Rotolo was recognized with the Young Technologist of the Year award.

“It is extremely gratifying to have our work over the past decade conceptualizing, designing and developing wireless grid technologies and applications recognized by the technical community,” said McKnight. “The iSchool has been fantastic at allowing me to think way outside the box, and work with our exceptional students, staff and faculty colleagues in turning a new vision into an emergent reality. A decade after 9/11, we have the tools to, among other things, better manage emergency response across networks, devices, and agencies, for first responders in law enforcement or passersby. The WiGiT Project will demonstrate this right here in Syracuse in 2012 with our partners. Winning the TACNY award feels great.”

“It’s an honor to receive this award from TACNY, which has done such great work to raise awareness of science and technology in our community,” said Rotolo. “My work in social media is really about empowering people to share information and ideas, which is the most rewarding part of working with these technologies. Also, as someone who teaches college students who seem to never age, receiving an award called ‘Young Technologist of the Year’ is a great feeling!”

iSchool Dean Elizabeth D. Liddy said, “I am extremely proud of our faculty members and honored that they have been recognized by the community for their work and contributions in the information technology field.”
