The Career Services Office at the School of Information Studies (iSchool) is seeking alumni volunteers from the School’s Library and Information Science (LIS) program to assist with resume reviews and mock interviews in an online session planned for later this month.

“We want to give our LIS students a chance to receive feedback from information professionals,” explained Meredith Tornabene, associate career counselor at the iSchool. “So we’re looking for alumni volunteers to participate and help mentor our students as they begin or continue their job search process.”

The online workshop will begin with a live streamed video session via Adobe Connect for participants and alumni. After the brief session, paired reviewers and students interested in a similar field or career path will connect with each other. Alumni and students can connect with each other via their choice of Skype, Google Hangout, or telephone.

“We’ll ask reviewers to work with the students and look over their resumes to provide comments and feedback,” said Tornabene. “And we also would like reviewers to work with the students on interview skills.”

Resources will be provided to help alumni in guiding their discussions with students, noted Tornabene.

The session is scheduled for Saturday February 27, from 10:00 AM to Noon, eastern time. Alumni interested in participating are asked to sign up via an online form.

Questions should be addressed to Meredith Tornabene at mtornabe@syr.edu, or by calling the iSchool’s Career Services Office at (315) 443-4900.
