LaRoyce is a Ph.D. student at the iSchool and research associate with the C4 Lab, under the supervision of Dr. Joshua Introne. Drawing on ideas from complex systems science and sociophysics, LaRoyce aims to understand how collective intelligence emerges from the dynamics of self-organization. He considers how groups of (digitally connected) people update their knowledge and patterns of information flow without central co-ordination, and how such changes promote the collective ability to better understand and act within the world. His goal is to inform the development of information ecosystems that promote the necessary co-operation, diversity, and trust to enhance such collective intelligence.
Prior to joining the iSchool in 2021, LaRoyce graduated from the University of South Florida Schools of Information (B.S. Information Studies, 2020) and Interdisciplinary Global Studies (B.A. Political Science, 2020). He maintains a website and also tries to maintain a presence on Twitter and Mastodon.
