A faculty member and an alumnus from the School of Information Studies (iSchool) will speak next week during activities organized for Global Entrepreneurship Week at Syracuse University. Events for the week are being organized by the Blackstone Launchpad at Syracuse University, a resource that connects the campus innovation ecosystem with a global network that provides support for aspiring entrepreneurs.

University Professor Carl Schramm will lead the grand opening kick-off event on Monday, November 14 at 12:30 PM in the Peter Graham Scholarly Commons in Bird Library.

Schramm, who founded Global Entrepreneurship Week in 2007 when he was CEO and president of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, will deliver a talk entitled “The History of Innovation,” as part of the kick-off.

The Kauffman Foundation is the world’s largest philanthropy dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship, with a $2 billion endowment. Schramm is recognized globally as a leading authority on innovation, entrepreneurship and economic growth. The Economist has referred to him as the “evangelist of entrepreneurship.”

His opening remarks will address the importance of innovation as an act of intellectual creativity.

On Tuesday, November 15, iSchool alumnus Wiley Cerilli will give a Featured Entrepreneur talk at 11:00 AM in the Peter Graham Scholarly Commons in Bird Library.

Cerilli founded digital storefront provider SinglePlatform, and two years later sold it to email company Constant Contact for $100 million. He then joined New York City venture capital firm First Round Capital as a venture partner, investing in startups like Spring and Binti. Recently, he brought key SinglePlatform team members together again to start Good Uncle, a food delivery service, launching in Syracuse this fall.
