Hack Upstate Presents: Hacking CNY Fall 2014

For the last two years, Hack Upstate has worked towards one clearly defined mission: to unite and facilitate collaboration among the greater Upstate New York hacker community. With Hack Upstate IV less than three weeks away, we’re excited to continue to grow with the CNY tech community.

But, Hack Upstate is one of many great opportunities for Upstate New York hackers and designers this fall. We’ve partnered with an array of likeminded individuals and companies to bring you a series of competitions, and we want you to join us at each!

#ATTCNY & #ATTWNY

Each competition has cash prizes totalling in $18,000! Any and all teams are welcome, as long as one member each lives or studies in our local area. Submissions for the CNY challenge will be accepted until November 11; WNY (Western New York) apps must be submitted by November 10.

Check out our online resources for all the gritty details!

ProLiteracy Hackathon

This past weekend, September 13 and 14, ProLiteracy hosted its first-ever hackathon at the ProLiteracy Headquarters, located across the street from the Nancy Cantor Warehouse in downtown Syracuse. Teams were asked to build solutions that help address adult education, literacy, and technology illiteracy in the Syracuse area and around the world.

Hack Hunger & Homelessness

Finally, from November 7-9, the Tech Garden and Invisible People will be hosting Hack Hunger and Homelessness. Building off of Invisible People’s inspiring mission, developers and designers will come to together to build solutions to aid the less fortunate populations in Upstate and Central New York.

To facilitate this mission, participants are encouraged to donate a canned food item or an article of gently used winter clothing as an “admission fee.” The event kicks off National Hunger and Homeless week and aims to serve as a model for other communities addressing hunger and homelessness with technology.

The event wraps up just days before the AT&T CNY Civic App Challenge concludes, so it’ll be your last chance to get involved.

More info regarding dates and requirements will be online soon!

A Feature-Filled Fall

We’re so excited to bring you these engaging, meaningful events. We hope to see many familiar faces in Syracuse along the way, in addition to some new ones as well.

There’s a lot going on this fall, so get out there and make a difference!
