Welcome to the InclusiveTech Summit: Empowering Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies. This event is a celebration of diversity, reflecting the iSchool’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. Diversity is not just important to us; it is at the core of our identity.

At the iSchool, we understand the profound impact that diverse perspectives have on the field of information studies. We have dedicated ourselves to making our programs more inclusive, resulting in the iSchool student body being one of the most diverse on campus. With an almost 50-50 split in the male/female ratio, we take pride in the rich tapestry of backgrounds, experiences, and voices that contribute to our vibrant community.

Thursday, April 4th

3:00PM – Check-in, Opening Remarks and Community Building
Hinds Hall iCafe – Dean Andrew Sears
Start the day with a warm welcome and interactive activities designed to foster connections among newly admitted students, showcasing the strength that lies in our diversity.

4:00PM – Keynote Address: “Breaking Barriers in Tech”
Hinds Hall iCafe – Jenny Stromer-Galley, Professor and Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs
Known for her engaging and thought-provoking presentations, Professor Stromer-Galley will share insights into the importance of diversity in the evolving world of information studies.

4:30PM – Panel Discussion: “Diverse Voices, Infinite Possibilities”
Hinds Hall iCafe – Preeti Jagadev, Jaime Banks, Kelvin King, Folake Kehinde and students
Engage in a panel discussion featuring faculty and current students who have carved out paths in technology, highlighting the unique perspectives and contributions of women and students of color, embodying the inclusive spirit of the iSchool.

5:00PM – Interactive iSchool Workshop
Hinds Hall 027 Professor Laurie Ferger
Participate in hands-on workshops that showcase diverse aspects of information studies and technology, recognizing the unique strengths that a diverse group brings to problem-solving and creativity.

6:00PM – iSchool Networking Dinner
Hinds Hall iCafe – Faculty, staff and current iSchool students
Enjoy dinner while networking with faculty, current students, and peers. This is an opportunity to build a supportive community and exchange experiences that contribute to the richness of our iSchool family.

7:00PM – Student Activity Night and Parent Q&A Session
Hinds Hall iCafe (students) & Hinds Hall 109 (parents) – Faculty, staff and current iSchool students
Experience an evening of interactive activities where admitted students can meet and interact with current iSchool students. Engage in casual conversations, participate in fun activities, and get a glimpse into the vibrant student life at the iSchool. Simultaneously, parents are invited to a Q&A session where they can ask questions and gain insights into the iSchool experience, academic support, and campus life.

8:00PM Thursday Parent Wrap up
Parents will head back to their hotel or homes in preparation for the Friday Admitted Student Spring Preview. Admitted students are welcome to continue activities with current students and staff until 10pm.

Admitted Student Spring Preview
Friday, April 5th

Parking for guests the at University Area Garage (UAG).
Join us for a full day on campus and celebrate with other admitted students!
Meet current students, learn more about your academic program, explore campus, meet with representatives from many of the offices and student organizations at Syracuse and have lunch with faculty, staff and current students.

8:30-9AM – Check-in
Refreshments will be available.

9:15AM – Welcome
Join fellow admitted students and families for a warm welcome that includes an introduction to academic and campus life.

10AM – College Sessions
Academic deans, faculty and students will present program facilities and opportunities. Dually admitted students may attend the morning college session of their choice. Groups will be escorted to the JMA Wireless Dome at the conclusion of the College Session.

12:00PM – 1:30PM – Campus Tours
Join us for a guided campus tour led by a student ambassador from our University 100. Tours last approximately one hour (offered every 15 minutes).

12:00PM – 1:30PM – Get Your Questions Answered
Visit with representatives from a variety of departments and organizations that represent the Syracuse experience. Light refreshments will be served.

1-2:00PM – Student Housing and Living Learning Communities Session
Meet with Residence Life staff to learn more about student housing and Living Learning Communities.

1:30-3PM – Design Your Afternoon
Visit another college or learn more about campus resources.
