School of Information Studies (iSchool) Dean Liz Liddy has named Professor Martha Garcia-Murillo to the role of Senior Associate Dean. Garcia-Murillo replaces Barbara Stripling in this role. Stripling retired from the iSchool in July.

Garcia-Murillo specializes in regulation of information and communication related industries. Her areas of interest include institutional and information economics, the impact of regulation on business behavior, and factors that affect infrastructure deployment.  Her current research explores how to best facilitate a smooth transition to a more technologically dependent society.

She holds an M.S. in Economics and a Ph.D. in Political Economy and Public Policy from the University of Southern California and has taught at the iSchool since 2000.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this role and to work with our students, staff, and faculty members to achieve our strategic goals,” says Garcia-Murillo. “I look forward to engaging in conversations and learning from everyone. There are tremendous opportunities for us all to contribute to the information field.”

The role of the Senior Associate Dean is to work with the iSchool community on a variety of school-wide initiatives, serve as a deputy to the dean, and represent the school on campus wide committees and task forces.

“I very much appreciate Martha’s willingness to take on this new responsibility and I look forward to working with her in this role,” says iSchool Dean Liz Liddy. “I also thank Barbara Stripling for her outstanding performance as Senior Associate Dean, and wish her well in the next chapter of her life.”
