As part of New York City DataWeek, the Syracuse University School of Information Studies (iSchool) will host a panel discussion on how organizations can deveop data science talent from within their own ranks.
The engaging program will outline the alternative to hiring new talent – developing the talent currently within an organization. A full data lifecycle perspective will inform this dialogue, while panelists address a variety of issues facing organizations today.
Panelists Include Robert Bry, Academic Initiative Lead at IBM; Dr. R. Madhavan, Chief Data Scientist at JP Morgan Chase & Co.; Annika Jimenez, Global Head of Data Science Services for Pivotal (a division of EMC); and Nicholas O’Brien, Chief of Staff, New York City Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics.
This event will be moderated by Dr. Jeffrey Stanton who is senior associate dean and data science faculty lead at the iSchool. Dr. Stanton is author of the open source eBook, An Introduction to Data Science. The eBook is the text for Applied Data Science: An Introduction, the upcoming data science MOOC offered by the iSchool.
The panel will be held on Tuesday, October 29, at 7:00 PM in the Hilton Midtown Regent Parlor, and is open to the public. Event information and RSVP form.
Big Data Journal, the first peer-reviewed journal to explore challenges and opportunities in the field of data discovery is co-sponsoring the event, and all attendees will earn a complimentary, six-month subscription to the publication.
New York City DataWeek is organized by the O'Reilly Strata Conference, which focuses on big data technology and strategy for business managers, data analysts, developers, and data scientists. O'Reilly co-presents DataWeek with New York City's Office for Information Technology and Telecommunications, and Control Group, a technology and design consultancy firm.
