Syracuse University Resources

While the iSchool has our own academic advising resources, Syracuse University offers expanded student resources for academic advising, integrity, assistance, and more.

Every community has rules and policies that foster safety, security and wellness and it is the goal of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities to accomplish this while promoting learning, awareness, accountability, and service to others.

The student conduct process at Syracuse University is designed to provide a fair and engaging process for the resolution of alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct.  It is our hope that students who participate in the student conduct process learn about their own decision-making, how their decisions impact both themselves as well as the broader Syracuse University community and that they use the conduct process as a stepping stone for their own engagement as community members.

The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities wishes each Syracuse University student a positive experience and encourage all University members to support and guide our students as they begin to learn more about themselves and their role in a community.

Syracuse University’s Academic Integrity Policy holds students accountable for the integrity of the work they submit. Students should be familiar with the policy and know that it is their responsibility to learn about course-specific expectations, as well as about university policy.

The university policy governs appropriate citation and use of sources, the integrity of work submitted in exams and assignments, and the veracity of signatures on attendance sheets and other verification of participation in class activities. The policy also prohibits students from submitting the same written work in more than one class without receiving written authorization in advance from both instructors.

You can review the Academic Integrity Policy at the Academic Integrity Office. They also recommend several Syracuse University resources and tools students can use to improve your work:

In compliance with section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Syracuse University is committed to ensure that “no otherwise qualified individual with a disability…shall, solely by reason of disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity…”

If you believe that you need accommodations for a disability, please contact the Center for Disability Resources, located in Room 309 of 804 University Avenue, or call (315) 443-4498 for an appointment to discuss your needs and the process for requesting accommodations.

ODS is responsible for coordinating disability-related accommodations and will issue students with documented Disabilities Accommodation Authorization Letters, as appropriate. Since accommodations may require early planning and generally are not provided retroactively, please contact ODS as soon as possible.

Syracuse University’s religious observances policy recognizes the diversity of faiths represented among the campus community and protects the rights of students, faculty, and staff to observe religious holy days according to their tradition.

Under the policy, you are provided an opportunity to make up any examination, study, or work requirements that may be missed due to a religious observance provided you notify the instructor before the end of the second week of classes.

For fall and spring semesters, an online notification process is available through MySlice/Student Services/Enrollment/My Religious Observances from the first day of class until the end of the second week of class.  Please see the Syracuse University Religious Observances Policy for more information.

The Dean of Students Office serves as a central support hub to help students and their families manage crises, life traumas, and other concerns or barriers that impede success.

The office works to address the needs of students who struggle in areas such as psychological health, physical health, crime victimization, sexual misconduct and relationship violence, and social adjustment through a variety of interventions, referrals, advocacy, and follow-up services.

Our Counseling Center at the Barnes Center at the Arch offers drop-in hours, various therapy options, a 24-hour hotline, and more.

Our Center for International Services supports international students with everything from the visa process, to finding housing, to choosing a mobile phone plan.

Email Listservs

We encourage all graduate students to sign up for their program listserv. All undergraduate students will be added to the appropriate listservs automatically. Please visit our Answers page to see all available iSchool listservs, as well as learn how to subscribe and unsubscribe them.
