Myung J. Lee, professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at City University of New York (CUNY), will present on Wednesday, October 6 as part of the School of Information Studies Brown Bag Speaker Series. The presentation will take place at 2:15 p.m. in the Katzer Room, 347 Hinds Hall.
Lee’s talk will begin with the importance of innovation on information technology, in the context of new technologies unpredictable success rates. The rest of the talk will focus on the impact of the new Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) mesh networking standards on wireless sensor networks that monitor physical and environmental conditions like temperature, sound, and vibration. He will cover the principles of operation such as block addressing, meshed tree networking, and the performance comparison with other wireless sensor network mesh approaches and share other CUNY contributions to on-going IEEE standardization.
Lee holds a B.S. and M.S from Seoul National University in Korea and a Ph.D. from Columbia, all in electrical engineering. He is currently a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at City University of New York. Lee’s research interest includes wireless sensor networks, ad hoc networks, wireless multimedia networking, and Internet. His research has been funded by government agencies, leading industries, including, NSF, ARL, Tecordia, Samsung, and ETRI. He has authored and co-authored more than 130 journals, book chapters, and conference papers and 20 U.S. and international patents. He also serves as an associate editor for IEEE communications magazine and as the chair of IEEE 802.15.5.
