CommonGround, a collaboration between the School of Information Studies (iSchool) and the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), exploring intersections between information, technology, art and design, will host an open house on Thursday, December 8 beginning at 11:30am in the iSchool’s Innovation Studio (Hinds 011). The event will showcase collaborative design and technology projects by faculty and students.

The event will begin with a series of short presentations from VPA & iSchool faculty highlighting recent collaborations, and then be followed by an interactive poster/demo session featuring projects by over 75 students.

A series of short presentations from faculty working on design & technology collaborations

  • Anne Beffel (VPA) and Susan Dischiave (iSchool), Sitting Still
  • Carlos Caicedo (iSchool) and Denise Heckman (VPA), Interface Design and Mobile Apps
  • Jen Hamilton (VPA) and Keisuke Inoue (iSchool), Mobile App for the Connective Corridor Bus
  • Zeke Leonard (VPA) and Jaime Snyder (iSchool), Syracuse Little Free Libraries

1:00pm      INTERACTIVE POSTER/DEMO SESSION
Featuring projects from three classes:

  • Social Web Technology (Inoue)
  • Interface Design (Heckman)  which met in tandem with Mobile App Development (Caicedo)
  • Display of Medical Compliance Information  designed by students in Primary and Secondary Research in Design (Brandt)

3:30pm      ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS
Based on evaluation by a panel of expert judges and popular votes collected via mobile app, 4 winning teams will be announced (one from each class and one overall best project).
