Video Update, Week 10: Professor Scott Nicholson at MIT by Alyssa Henry

In this week's update, Professor Scott Nicholson is in Singapore where he is experiencing the food, culture and of course, board games! After eating some famous Chili Crab, he visits the MIT Gambit Lab to meet some of the participants there and learn about their projects. He also takes us to the Singapore Flyer, a Ferris wheel even larger than the London Eye, so we can see the views of the entire city. Nicholson continues his travels in Asia and visits Kuala Lumpur to give a talk, and then is back in Singapore to speak at a conference.

Weekly Tech Roundup: Apple TV, Google TV & More by Manan Kakkar

This week has had some interesting announcements in the consumer technology market. It started with every paragraph from Steve Jobs's much anticipated biography being turned into a news story. There was one quote from author and biographer Walter Isaacson's latest work that caught everyone's attention; Steve Jobs said he cracked what an Apple TV should be like. Valley hawk-eye Robert Scoble pointed to his insight on the product and a Bloomberg story further validated rumors of an Apple TV.

Video Update, Week 8: Professor Scott Nicholson at MIT by Alyssa Henry

In his eighth video update since beginning the semester at MIT, Professor Scott Nicholson discusses the Essen Game Fair in Germany where over 700 new board games are introduced for the holiday season. He also breaks down the latest news in board games, including two companies who both believe they have the rights to reprint an old game. Finally, he tells us about meeting a representative from Microsoft Germany and discussing future plans for collaboration.

The Importance of Academic Libraries by Natasha Cooper

On a philosophical note, finding articles and searching for information is one part of learning about the world of learning, and part of the experience of coming to a college or university. We learn from and with others during our four (or more years) of connectedness with an institution. We learn about the research process from instructors, peers, and the recorded and preserved work of others, much of which is available in libraries. We are all part of a larger environment that promotes learning, now and in the future – and we work together on this.
