School of Information Studies (iSchool) assistant professor of practice Anthony Rotolo attended the South-by-Southwest EDU (SxSW EDU) conference and festival last week in Austin, Texas.
There, he and Syracuse University Alumnus Isaac Budmen (’12, Maxwell) delivered a talk about their book, The Book on 3D Printing.
Published last fall, the book was designed to fill a void between the too-technical publications in existence and the “dummies”-type guides, and provides an easy-to-understand, quick read on how 3D printing works.
Their conference talk, “Adventures in 3D Printing,” told the story of their work researching the 3D printing technology, writing the book, and exploring the technology in a variety of projects at the New Explorations in Information and Science (NEXIS) lab at the iSchool.
“We had the opportunity to meet with interesting people ranging from the Texas Board of Education to teachers and professors at schools across the country,” said Rotolo. “It was a wonderful experience to be a part of SxSW EDU for the first time.”
Over one hundred educators were in attendance at the talk, and many stayed for the book signing afterwards. “We had the chance to share our research and experience with many teachers, the best kind of teachers,” remarked Rotolo. “These are the teachers pushing the limits of the classroom and opening doors for their students to learn for the future.”
Although this was Rotolo’s first speaking engagement at the EDU portion of the conference, he spoke in 2012 at SXSW Interactive.
