Monday (May 20) is the last date to enroll in the IBM zEnterprise Summer Seminar.
The event is being hosted by IBM’s Academic Initiative for educators at the high school and college levels. The 2013 seminar will be held at Syracuse University June 3 through 5.
A variety of presentations and lab exercises are planned. Seminar topics planned for discussion include:
- Best practices and tales from the trenches about integrating enterprise curriculum into the classroom
- New curriculum overviews
- Overviews of popular topics (such as virtualization, databases, big data, master data management).
The event also will include networking and an employer panel discussion related to employer skills and why students should learn to use enterprise systems.
There is no cost for the seminar events, which are hosted by IBM and Syracuse University.
Syracuse University also will host a local tour of the campus Green Data Center as part of the seminar.
IBM’s Academic Initiative provides educators with training materials, curriculum guides, software and hardware to teach in-demand business and technology skills. It introduces real-word challenges and technology into the classroom, providing students hands-on experiences valued by employers in the current marketplace, according to IBM.
At the School of Information Studies, Associate Professors of Practice David Dischiave and Susan Dischiave are liaisons to the IBM Academic Initiative program.
Professor David Dischiave described the seminar as “a great way to introduce professors to enabling technologies that will help their students solve large, complex problems that require the highest levels of information security.”
