The Technology Liberation Front (TLF) blog welcomes Syracuse University School of Information Studies (iSchool) Professor Milton Mueller as an occasional contributor to the technology and policy focused website aiming to reverse the trend of over-regulating the Internet.
“[Mueller] has sought to bring new life into the old cyber-libertarian philosophy that was more prevalent during the Net’s founding era but has lost flavor today,” wrote Adam Thierer, senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University and regular contributor to the TLF. “He has also given our little movement its marching orders.”
Though Mueller will continue to blog at the Internet Governance Project of which he is a founding member, he will cross-post some of his writings to the TLF, as well as comment on other pressing Internet policy issues.
Mueller is Professor at Syracuse University School of Information Studies, where he teaches courses on information and communication policy and telecommunication management. His research focuses on property rights, institutions and global governance in communication and information industries. His earlier book Ruling the Root: Internet Governance and the Taming of Cyberspace (MIT Press, 2002) was the first book-length analysis of the political and economic forces leading to the creation of ICANN. Currently, he is doing research on the legal and regulatory responsibilities of Internet service providers, Internet Protocol addressing policy, the policy implications of Deep Packet Inspection technology and the security governance practices of network operators.
