Syracuse University School of Information Studies Dean Elizabeth D. Liddy is pleased to announce some enhancements to the school’s recruitment and enrollment management through a few key changes in staff roles and responsibilities.

“The iSchool is well served by talented and dedicated staff members whose new roles and responsibilities reflect both their key contributions to-date, and our confidence in their ability to continue to enhance the school’s capabilities in these areas,” Dean Liddy said.

Sue Corieri has been named to the new position of assistant dean for enrollment management and special academic program initiatives. She was the catalyst for the iSchool’s partnership with the U.S. Army Signal Center at Fort Gordon that is bringing a new population of students to Syracuse, and has more recently traveled to India, Saudi Arabia, and Panama to develop new markets for iSchool programs.

Corieri, who had been director of enrollment management, will provide leadership, strategic direction, and management in the development, coordination, and implementation of the iSchool’s enrollment plan. She will have an increased focus on expanding the school’s visibility domestically and across the globe, including building relationships with institutions in new and emerging geographic markets.

A 2001 graduate of the master’s degree in information management program, Corieri worked as a research analyst and web manager at the iSchool’s Center for Natural Language Processing from 2000 to 2004. After that, she served as a recruiting specialist at SU’s School of Architecture, where she directed undergraduate admissions activities and recruitment efforts.

Julie Walas, who previously held the title of recruiting specialist, will be director of undergraduate recruitment. Since she joined the iSchool in 2009, she has helped establish and surpass the enrollment goals for the school’s undergraduate program. She will continue to work closely with Undergraduate Program Director Dave Molta, Corieri, and academic leadership as she serves as the primary representative for undergraduate recruitment externally.

Walas is also the assistant coach of SU’s mascot, Otto the Orange. Prior to coming to the iSchool, she served as an admissions counselor at Syracuse University’s Undergraduate Office of Admissions. She also worked as an assistant in SU’s College of Law Admissions Office. She holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and educational policy, with a minor in Spanish.

Bridget Crary, who had served as the senior student records coordinator, was promoted to graduate recruitment coordinator. In this new role, she will work closely with other members of the iSchool to improve the efficiency of the admissions process and to communicate with prospective students throughout the admissions cycle. She will continue to assist the Ph.D. committee for doctoral application reviews and maintain the academic records for the doctoral program.

In June, Crary celebrated 25 years with Syracuse University, 23 of those years with the School of Information Studies.

As was announced previously, Katie Schisa was appointed the associate director of online program development. In this position, she will provide leadership in carrying out the recommendations of the Task Force on Online Education and ensure the iSchool’s role as a leader in online education. She will coordinate with Sue Corieri and the iSchool program directors to help sharpen the iSchool’s focus on marketing and recruitment for all of its online degree programs. She will continue in her role as director of the Web-based Information Science Education (WISE) Consortium, working directly with Dave Lankes, director of the M.S. in Library and Information Science Program.

Schisa is a 2009 graduate of the iSchool’s M.S. in Library and Information Science Program and holds a B.S. in brain and cognitive science with a minor in social psychology from the University of Rochester. She has presented nationally and internationally on the WISE Consortium and online learning.
