Awards & Recognition Program

The iSchool's Awards & Recognition Program serves to highlight members of the Syracuse iSchool community and showcase their contributions and talents.

Awards are presented in the fall, during Syracuse University's Orange Central homecoming weekend.

Nominations: Recipients can be self-nominated or can be nominated by fellow alumni. Faculty, staff and professional colleagues can also nominate individuals.

Timeline: Nominations are accepted year-round, but must be received by August 15, 2017 to be considered for Orange Central 2017. Nominations received after August 15 will be considered for the following year.

Award Details

Bridge to Success Alumni Award (Early Career Award)

Nominations are reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Must be a graduate of the iSchool (undergraduate program or minor, or graduate program)
  • Must have graduated within the last 15 years (as of December 31 of the year nominated)
  • Excelled early in career and shown potential for continued success
  • Received recognition as an emerging leader through professional and/or community achievements
  • Attained increasingly responsible positions within their organization, business or field of work
  • Received recognition for significant professional contributions, discoveries or creative work through honors, awards and/or media attention
  • Served as an outstanding role model for current and future iSchool students


Innovation Alumni Award

Recognizes an individual that has shown creative and innovative ways to improve a process or business model unique to their organization. This may be technology, customer or process driven.  

Nominations are reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Entries can include: purpose of the innovation; before/after results
  • Description of the previous process or operation
  • Changes or new ideas developed; procedural changes and/or equipment placements
  • The outcomes including data on increased revenue, customer satisfaction, cost savings, productivity improvements or other related results
  • Projections and plans for continued utilization of the process


Outstanding Alumni Service Award

This award recognizes the service of a volunteer who has had a major impact on the University, its schools, colleges, departments, or faculty, or to the iSchool Alumni Office. 

Nominations are reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Nominees must be a graduate or a former student of the iSchool
  • They cannot be a current member of faculty or staff, or a sitting Advisory Board Member, but retirees and former board members are eligible


Impact of the Year Award (Friend of the iSchool Award)

This award celebrates an individual who has made a significant contribution to the iSchool in the past year. The contribution may be through volunteer activities with the iSchool, the Alumni Office, partnership with faculty, or other form of engagement. This award is open to any person.

Nominations are reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Contributions to the iSchool community
  • Tangible results and impact of contribution
  • Leadership, vision or mentorship


Dean’s Award

This award is the highest honor bestowed by the iSchool.

Nominations are reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Must have achieved broad recognition for extraordinary creativity, advancement of knowledge or technology, performance, or the advancement of mankind through application of his or her iSchool education
  • Must have demonstrated exemplary service to the iSchool or University
