Technology at the heart of the global economy.

Experience how some of the world’s largest and most innovative companies are employing technology. This 16-day seminar in Asia will start in Hong Kong and go through Singapore, Malaysia, and end up in Thailand.

Explore Asia through the lens of Global Enterprise Technology.

This course provides the opportunity to see technologies in action at some of the most successful organizations in the world. Students will have free time to explore each city on their own, as well as visit cultural attractions as a group.

AsiaTech students must register and take GET 487/687 for 3 credits in the spring semester. This course will provide opportunities to experience first-hand how technology and information provide strategic advantages for several global enterprise corporations as well as many non-commercial organizations.

The innovative use of information technology is a key element of success in the global economy. How organizations use information technology to address global technology challenges will be explored.

Class size is limited to 30 students. Any matriculated undergraduate or graduate student is eligible to apply.

Paul Gandel is a professor in the School of Information Studies. He previously served as the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Syracuse University. As Chief Information Officer he was responsible for all aspects for information technology and information service—computer services, voice and data networking, instructional services, business process improvement, and distance learning. During his tenure as CIO he was instrumental in modernizing the University’s technology infrastructure and IT support services to ensure that SU remain competitive with the growing demands of providing high-quality information resources for research, teaching, and student learning environments. He was also responsible for initiating and developing the Green Data Center at Syracuse University, one of the “greenest” data centers in the world.

Students register for and take this three credit class during the spring semester.

  • SU undergraduates pay no additional tuition charge, as long as they have not exceeded the 19-credit limit for the semester
  • Graduate students do pay the per credit tuition charge for this three credit class.

The cost for the travel portion of the course is approximately $4,600, and includes:

  • Round-trip transportation from a U.S. airport to Asia
  • Housing
  • Some group meals
  • Transportation between cities
  • Entrance fees to attractions visited by the group

It also includes all activities and services for which a separate fee is not charged. The final fee will be set once airfare and other expenses have been confirmed. Financial aid is available.
