Researchers in this center seek to understand the impact of merging information technologies with the electric grid. Integration of these technologies creates a smarter grid providing opportunities for the energy industry to improve its reliability and efficiency. Projects undertaken include exploring the following:

  • Factors influencing the adoption of smart grid technologies by electrical utilities,
  • Smart meter data privacy and consumer concerns and practices
  • Electricity usage data from over 1,200 households. This big data project uses meter readings collected from the Pecan Street Institute in Austin. TX.

Research is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
