Overview
Zixiang (Alex) Tan - Curriculum VitaeAlex (Zixiang) Tan teaches in the Telecommunications and Network Management area. His current research and teaching interests include telecommunications policy and regulation, new technology development and applications, industry restructure and competition. He has published journal papers in many prestigious international journals including the Telecommunications Policy and the Communications of the ACM. His co-authored book China in the Information Age: Telecommunications and the Dilemmas of Reform has been jointly published by the CSIS and Praeger in 1997. He has been invited as a panel speaker by many conferences including FCC's seminar, ITS, PTC, and TPRC. Alex has also been paying close attention to telecommunications in Asia. One of his multi-year projects is Information and Telecommunications in China.
Alex has worked in telecommunications field for more than fifteen years. He spent years in telecommunications field in various organizations including a Chinese central government agency, an Alcatel's European branch, and a research center at University of Nebraska. In addition, he has done consulting projects for many multinational corporations including AT&T (Lucent Technology), Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), Scientific-Atlanta, BellSouth, Space Systems/Loral, Vodafone, Telesystem, IDC, and others.
Alex (Zixiang) Tan received his Ph. D. degree in Telecommunications Policy and Management from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He holds both a Bachelor and a Master degree in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Alex has a second Master degree in Communications and Information Technology Policy from SPRU of the University of Sussex in UK.

As a telecommunications specialist, my research focuses on the consequences of governmental policy and regulations on telecommunications and information infrastructure as well as the applications and implications of telecommunications and information technology and services. Giving that this setting reflects an interdisciplinary approach, my research takes its theoretical base primarily from political economies, economics, political science, public policy, communication, and technology management. The research work involves empirical studies/evaluations and theoretical characteristics of various issues by using qualitative and quantitative methods, while emphasizing case study and comparative study approaches.Personal
