Melissa Lopoo represents the iSchool both internally and externally for recruitment purposes. She comes to the iSchool from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University where she was an adjunct professor in the Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies for seven years. During her time teaching, she was a nominee for the University’s Meredith Teaching Award as well as an academic advisor and mentor. Simultaneously, she worked as a communications consultant with expertise in the fields of speaker training, media and branding strategies, speech writing and editing, and marketing.
Prior to joining SU, Melissa worked in the entertainment industry. Locally, she wrote and produced the morning talk show, “Bridge Street with Rick and Julie” as well as a special project, “Phantom: Unmasked” for which she won a Telly Award and a Syracuse Press Award and was nominated for an Emmy. She maintains membership in the prominent Screen Actors Guild and has served on behalf of the SAG Foundation as a liaison between the Guild and its high profile members.
Melissa received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature and art history from Louisiana State University in her hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In addition, she earned a Master of Arts degree from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse in Television-Radio-Film.
