David Stokoe is an English Library Conservator trained primarily through the U.K. Society of Archivists (SoA) beginning in 1982. Having attained the S.o.A "Conservation Certification" after 3 years of apprenticeship, he attained S.o.A “Registered" status in 1996 & went on to be one of the UK's first "Accredited Conservator-Restorers” through the UK National Council for Conservation – Restoration (NCCR) in 2000.
He studied at the Newcastle College of Arts & Technology (U.K.) for 4 years and was certified in Craft Bookbinding in 1988.
He has a wealth of experience and training in the library conservation profession and related fields including treatments, custom re-housing, disaster planning, exhibition production, training events, presentations and mentoring.
He has worked as Assistant Conservator at Newcastle County Record Office in the north east of England, as Conservator for the Isle of Man's National Archive & Library, then as Senior Conservator for Cumbria County Archive Service in North West England.
More recently in the U.S., he was appointed Preservation Administrator for the Burke Library at Union Theological Seminary in Manhattan prior to becoming Rare Book & Paper Conservator for the SUL Special Collections Research Center. He attained “Professional Associate” (P.A.) status with the American Institute of Conservation in 2008 and has also become a P.A. mentor.
