iSchool student Mysha is doing a summer internship in San Jose, CA with EY.

The First Steps for my Internship with EY

My internship with EY makes me feel nervous but also excited. This is my first time interning in a corporate setting and I want to learn as much as I can from it. I am eager to understand the values and expectations from EY. I want to hone my teamwork and communication skills as an intern so I can better prepare for the future.

Where do I stay?

The housing process was probably the most difficult process for me. I do not have any knowledge of the area, and almost all the Airbnbs, hotels and intern housing options were taken by the time I started searching in late May.

Luckily, I found a place at San Jose State University and was quick to take up the opportunity. I would highly suggest looking for housing as soon as you confirm your summer internship!

The Application Process

The application process taught me the importance of networking and School of Information Studies trips. The iSchool has played a significant part in advising me on how to score my internship. I was first exposed to EY through the Sophomore Leaders Overnight Retreat trip.

As I was applying and preparing for interviews, I sought the help of Career Services for further assistance. The iSchool course IST 335 – Introduction to Information Based Organizations provided me insight on management from a higher level perspective. It also helped me with my behavioral questions during the interview process.

Exploring San Jose

I want to explore Northern California as much as I can, and San Francisco is high on my list of places to explore!  Some other places around San Jose I want to visit are Santa Cruz, Santana Row, Winchester Mystery House, and most definitely the Tech Museum.

Expectations

By the end of this internship I hope to learn more about what EY strives for as a company and better understand its digital footprint in this world. I want to make positive contributions to society, and I’m definite that I will find a way to do so at EY.
