Finishing an Internship with Wayfair: Future Plans and Advice for iSchoolers

When my internship with Wayfair began, I was apprehensive about how well I would fit into a professional work environment and learn all the required technical skills to excel at work.

This was primarily due to this being by first such venture in the United States. I was skeptical about how am I expected to communicate with my team members.

As the internship proceeded,  I realized that I had changed as a person and had learnt perfectly well how to conduct myself professionally. I had become much more confident and my technical acumen had increased due to practice.

I thoroughly enjoyed working on data science projects, as that was primarily the goal when I picked my major. This internship experience just reinforced my liking for this field and thus aligned perfectly with my goals.

My Goals at the iSchool

I am going to pick courses in iSchool that align with my goals and help me learn more about data science as a concept.

At the same time, I am going to keep solving coding challenges online not only to keep me in touch with the language, but also to make me better at it.

My personal goal will be to keep exploring this country and indulging in new adventure activities. Professionally, my aim would be to excel at my workplace. Academically, I hope to maintain my GPA and learn more concepts related to data science.

Advice for the iSchoolers

Do not be nervous about your internship experience. The sooner you fit into the workplace, the better it would be for you and your team members.

Ask for questions whenever you feel you are stuck at something. Help them to help you.

Learn as much as you can using all the resources available to you. Remember, learning a concept academically is completely different from utilizing it at work. So try and make the most of it.

And last but not the least, don’t forget to have fun!
