March 15, 2018, 6:30 p.m. - March 15, 2018, 8:30 p.m.

Location: SPUR Urban Center, 2nd Floor

Jeff Hemsley, and Jennifer Grygiel

As we scroll through Facebook and swipe past tweets, how can we tell what’s true? Join us as we explore how social media contributes to the spread of fake news—and how best to separate fact from fiction.

Faculty members Jeff Hemsley from the iSchool and Jennifer Grygiel from the Newhouse School will discuss how social media affects the way we consume news. Ellie Thiele '12, who works as a user experience researcher with Airbnb, will serve as the evening's moderator.

The evening begins with a reception featuring drinks and appetizers and a chance to connect with faculty members and fellow alumni. Sandra Reid G'98, senior corporate counsel for Westfield Retail Solutions and member of the iSchool Board of Advisors, will kick off the evening’s program at 7:30 p.m.

Program cost of $10 includes drinks and appetizers.

Registration is now closed for this event, but walk-in attendees are welcome!
