Ray Newsom from IBM

The world is in the midst of a digital transformation which continues to grow and extend in radically new ways.  Cognitive computing and machine learning are enabling businesses to think in new ways, to create better understanding and new types of insight that can radically change interactions. Blockchain is likely to do for transactions what the internet did for information, enabling new ecosystems of partners to operate with greater efficiency and transparency.  Industries are converging and new ecosystems are being formed and new operating models are evolving through born on the web businesses that massively disrupt established norms across industries (i.e. Uber and Airbnb).

In order to embrace the innovations driven through the digital economy, people will need to trust their relationships with businesses that they interact with, as well as, the platforms and systems that underpin those businesses. Trust will become the new currency that drives this digital economy. It will be the foundation of new digital relationships and will be a key differentiator for businesses looking to innovate and drive growth.

This presentation will give the audience an overview of strategic directions that IBM has taken over the last few years to transform the IBM Z platform to be the cornerstone of the trust economy and therefore the digital economy.  Businesses that want to succeed in the trust economy must ensure security, transparency and greater value in every interaction and transaction.  They need to exploit data for new insights, to understand their customers better than anyone else and provide better experiences that foster loyalty.  Lastly, businesses need to constantly innovate to accelerate delivery of new digital services with new economic models.  This presentation will discuss the high level strategic direction for the IBM Z platform for analytics, machine learning, Blockchain, and security.  Finally, this presentation will introduce the IBM z14 which is the latest generation of the IBM Z platform.

The talk is open to the University community - all are welcome to attend.
