Job Shadow Program - Student Information

Have you wondered what you can do with an iSchool degree? Now's your chance to find out!

The Job Shadow program is an opportunity for you to observe first-hand a typical day on the job by accompanying Syracuse University alumni through their workday. You’ll begin to understand the skills and attributes necessary to succeed in a particular field and gain a realistic picture of the everyday aspects of a workplace.

You do not have to have experience in the field. This experience is meant to be a chance to explore careers and network with alumni. We are accepting applications from all class years but please note the alumnus gets to pick what class year(s) they would like to host, so you will only see the opportunities that you qualify for based on your class standing.

A Typical Job Shadow Day

The format and schedule is up to each individual alumna/us, but a typical Job Shadow day may include:

  • Observation of individual employees’ activities during their workday
  • Informational interviews with employees
  • Meetings with clients, department heads, or other individuals
  • Lunch with Syracuse alumni
  • A tour of the company

November 25 - 26, 2019

Job Shadow Days

There is a mandatory Orientation in early November. Exact dates will be communicated via email.

During your Job Shadow experience, you are expected to arrive on time, dress appropriately, have done in-depth research into the organization, come with substantive questions, and be prepared to spend the day learning. You are also responsible for your own transportation.

If, for any reason, you cannot participate after you have selected a shadow opportunity, please notify the iSchool Career Services office immediately. There might be a student on the waitlist who can take your spot.

Students will be able to review possible job shadow opportunities in Handshake and sign up for one they feel is the best match for them.

For more information, e-mail Christopher Perrello, Career Services Director at or call him at (315) 443-5611.
