Cara A. Howe

Cara A. Howe is the Assistant Director for Archives and Special Collections at SUNY Upstate Medical University.

Cara received an M.S.L.I.S. and a C.A.S. in Cultural Heritage Preservation from the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University and an M.A. in Museum Studies from the College of Visual and Performing Arts. She has been a member of the Academy of Certified Archivists since 2012.

Cara has been the assistant archivist for the Pan Am 103 Archives at Syracuse University and a consultant archivist for the Judaic Heritage Center of CNY.

Professional

Cara is a member of the Academy of Certified Archivists, the New York Archives Council (NYAC), the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Council (MARAC) and the Society of American Archivists (SAA). She currently serves on the Finding Aids Committee for MARAC and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Erie Canal Museum.

Teaching

Cara has taught workshops for archival professionals through the Central New York Library Resources Council, the Rochester Regional Library Council and the Northern New York Library Resources Council. These workshops included “Creating Archival Exhibitions: Basic Theory and Practice” and “Oral Histories: Interviewing Basics”. She has also guest lectured to IST 622: Cultural Heritage Preservation, MUS 607: Collections Management and MUS 506: Introduction to Curatorship.
