TEDx Syracuse University Conference Scheduled for Saturday

TEDx Syracuse University will hold its 2017 conference, Switch, this Saturday, April 22, in the Slocum Auditorium on the Syracuse University campus.

This year’s speakers are Ashley Kang, Bikash Regmi, Colby Sutter, Gus Naughton, Lakshmi Sundar, and Vasilios Lambos.

Kang will speak about the importance of community journalism, having worked at The Stand, based out of the south side of Syracuse.

Regmi will discuss his experiences as a refugee from Bhutan, highlighting the contributions refugees make as they adjust to life in the United States.

Sutter works with at-risk teens in Syracuse, New York, developing innovative ways to prevent drug addiction.

Naughton is an entrepreneur who will share his story as a tech prodigy who dropped out of college.  

Sundar is passionate about the connections one can make through food, and will discuss how cuisine has inspired her travels and experiences. 

Lambos is an industrial designer who will share his current work, collecting data on stock traders using heart rate monitors.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDxSyracuseUniversity is a local, self-organized event that brings people together to share a TED-like experience.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design – three broad subject areas that are collectively shaping our world. A TED conference provides a broader experience – showcasing important ideas from any discipline, and exploring how they all connect, in a fast-paced format.

Doors to the event will open at 1:00 PM, and speakers will begin at 2:00 PM. Tickets for Switch have sold out, however the event will be webcast via a live video stream on the website, tedx.syr.edu.

A short reception will follow the talks around 4:00 PM.

The TEDx conference is student-organized and run, and is a recognized student organization, hosted by the iSchool.
