Syracuse iSchool welcomes new staff member Mary Kalaska-Capria

The School of Information Studies is pleased to announce that Mary Kalaska-Capria has joined its staff as a part-time office coordinator for its Web Design Center. The Web Design Center provides students with real-world exposure to clients requesting advice on web services, web site design, and development.

Kalaska-Capria will coordinate communication with current and future web design clients, marketing and promoting the center, managing student groups, processing invoices, and acting as a liaison between clients, faculty, staff, and students on center projects. Funding for her position was made possible through a grant from the Kauffman Campus Enitiative.

Prior to coming to the iSchool, Kalaska-Capria was assistant store manager of Goldwell of NY, an office assistant at Longley Jones Real Estate, and an office assistant at RSKCo/CNA Insurance.

She holds a B.A. in English literature from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, where she served as copy editor for the school’s newspaper, The Dolphin

The Interdisciplinary Center for Web Design is run by Professor of Practice Jeffrey Rubin, and will combine the efforts of 4-8 course sections a year to provide students with real-world exposure to clients requesting advice on web services, web site design and development. Students will be prepared to work as web-entrepreneurs by exposure to real-world clients with current web design and development needs. Students might come from any program, while courses will come from the iSchool undergraduate and graduate programs and the Newhouse New Media graduate program.

Enitiative is the Syracuse Campus-Community Entrepreneurship Initiative, made possible by a grant awarded to SU from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. This 5-year, $3-million endowment will enable the coalition of committed academic and community partners to incorporate entrepreneurship into every facet of advancing the Scholarship in Action vision throughout Central New York.
