Syracuse iSchool Upstate IT Scholarship Program featured in CNY Business Journal article

The School of Information Studies (iSchool) was featured as the cover story in the Tech Biz section of The Central New York Business Journal on February 26, 2010. The article entitled “iSchool extends scholarship program,” highlighted the iSchool’s decision to continue a scholarship program that provided financial aid for another year of study to about 60 students.

The program, which was launched in the spring 2009, covers half the tuition for full-time or part-time students who are permanent residents of Upstate New York. The students must be accepted into certain programs including the masters in information management, the executive master’s in information management, and the certificate of advanced study in information systems and telecommunications management.

In the article Martha Garcia Murillo, director of the master’s-degree program in telecommunications and network management, said previous students who have benefitted from this program have job experience that is beneficial to students and faculty in their classes.

Dave Dischiave, director of the master’s program in information management, said in the article that the program should help the area cope with the rapidly changing economic environment. The program will give manufactory workers who have been laid off a chance to re-educate themselves for new information centered career paths.
