Syracuse iSchool Professor Kevin Crowston named editor in chief of scholarly journal

Professor Kevin Crowston of the Syracuse University School of Information Studies was recently named co-editor in chief of the international journal, Information Technology and People (ITP). Founded in 1982, the journal publishes leading edge research that focuses on the interrelationship of information technology and organizations as well as new methods and theories, which explore this relationship.

In his role as editor in chief, Crowston will be responsible for overseeing reviews of papers for the journal, promoting the journal to authors and readers, and providing general strategic direction.

Crowston’s current research interests focus on new ways of organizing made possible by the use of information technology. This work approaches the issue in several ways: empirical studies of coordination-intensive processes in human organizations (especially virtual organization); theoretical characterizations of coordination problems and alternative methods for managing them; and design and empirical evaluation of systems to support people working together.

He received his A.B. (1984) in Applied Mathematics (Computer Science) from Harvard University and a Ph.D. (1991) in Information Technologies from the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
