School of Information Studies (iSchool) Associate Professor of Practice Jeff Rubin ’95, G’98 will be recognized for his contributions to the Syracuse University community at the 11th annual Orange Circle Awards ceremony on Thursday, March 28.
The Orange Circle Award honors altruistic members of the Syracuse University community who have done extraordinary things in the service of others. From generous financial support to selfless volunteerism, the Orange Circle Awards recognize students, faculty, staff, and alumni who possess a deep responsibility for acts that better society.
Rubin, a two-time graduate of the iSchool, is founder and CEO of SIDEARM Sports, a digital engagement platform for college athletics that serves as the backbone for the Syracuse University Athletics website, as well as over 1,000 other college and high school athletics digital presences.
As an iSchool faculty member, Rubin teaches his students the importance of integrating technology into any career discipline, and he is quick to showcase opportunities for students to gain real-world educational experiences through his support as an advisor on the iSchool’s Road Trips.
In addition to his generous financial support of the iSchool and its initiatives, Rubin is also generous with his time – recruiting future iSchool students, mentoring current students both inside and outside of the classroom, and offering numerous internship opportunities through SIDEARM Sports.
Rubin’s generosity extends far beyond the walls of Hinds Hall. He serves on the external affairs committee for Syracuse University Athletics, is active with the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation, and is a board member for David’s Refuge, a non-profit that provides resources and support to caregivers of children with special needs or life threatening medical conditions.
Since his time as a student at Syracuse University, Rubin has worked hard to achieve success. He is a leader in his industry, a selfless mentor to students, and a charitable member of the Syracuse University and Central New York communities.
In addition to Rubin’s recognition, other 2019 Orange Circle honorees include Syracuse University Enactus, the Christian Outreach and Student Association, and the Straighten Your Crown mentoring program.
Award recipients will be celebrated Thursday, March 28, at 5 p.m., in Rooms 304 ABC of the Schine Student Center. The ceremony is free to all students, faculty and staff. Guests are encouraged to register online.
The Orange Circle Awards mark the end of Forever Orange Week, a week that celebrates the lifelong bond that forms as soon as a student arrives at Syracuse University. Activities throughout the week will showcase that journey, highlighting ways students can be campus leaders, fostering Orange pride, underscoring the strength of Syracuse’s alumni network, and emphasizing the importance of giving back.
Sponsored by the Forever Orange Student-Alumni Council, the celebration runs March 24-28 with events happening each day. For more information, visit the Forever Orange Week website.
