With the appointment of Michele G. Wheatly as Syracuse University’s next Vice Chancellor and Provost this afternoon, it was announced that Elizabeth D. Liddy, who has been serving as interim Vice Chancellor and Provost since January 2015, will return to her position as Dean of the School of Information Studies (iSchool) on May 16. Liddy had served as Dean of the iSchool since 2008.
“Liz has been instrumental in crafting the Academic Strategic Plan,” said Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud. “Her entrepreneurial spirit, resolute leadership and collaborative approach have generated significant results across our campus. I am most grateful to her and look forward to working with her on future projects and initiatives as dean and a key member of the Chancellor’s Council.”
iSchool Professor Jeffrey Stanton had been named Interim Dean of the iSchool upon Liddy’s appointment to Vice Chancellor and Provost last year. Stanton will resume his faculty position on Liddy’s return.
“It has been a great learning experience and a real pleasure to serve the iSchool as interim dean,” said Stanton. “This school is unique and special because of the exceptional ‘can do’ spirit of the faculty, staff, and students. I am looking forward to seeing what the iSchool will achieve next."
Wheatly’s appointment comes on the heels of a 10-month search process, led by Charles Driscoll, University Professor in the College of Engineering and Computer Science and chair of the search. The search committee, consisting of students, faculty, staff and members of the Board of Trustees, was charged with recruiting, interviewing and ultimately recommending the University’s next chief academic officer. Wheatly will assume her new position on May 16.
