Graduate Students Named for Special Honors

As we celebrate a virtual degree conferral this weekend, we are recognizing the outstanding master’s and doctoral students who are receiving special awards for their academic and professional achievements and their contributions to the iSchool community. 

We acknowledge the countless hours of hard work that each one of these students put in during their time at the iSchool, and their exceptional contribution to their studies and the University. And hope that we can gather this Fall to celebrate their accomplishments.

Please join us in congratulating the following iSchool graduates:

Yaxing Yao was presented with the Doctoral Prize, recognizing the outstanding academic contributions of a Ph.D. student.

Three students were recognized in the Class of 2020’s Master’s Degree Awards, which are awarded to those who demonstrate excellence in their studies through class projects, research and other forms of scholarship at the master’s-degree level.

Olga Perera, M.S. in Applied Data Science Award

Sabrina Unrein, M.S. in Library and Information Science

Allison Keough, M.S. in Library and Information Science - School Media Specialization

Zefeng (Ben) Zhang was recognized with the John R. Weitzel Award for Information Systems Research, which honors a student who demonstrated outstanding excellence in the area of information systems through research

Lizhen Liang was presented with the Amy Everett Ethics Award, which is given to an outstanding student(s) on the basis of a paper that addresses ethical issues in information management.

Emily McFarlane was presented with the Angela DeSilva Inspirational Achievement Award, which recognizes a library school media graduate who has overcome obstacles and has persisted to achieve his or her degree, and who shares Angela’s determination and resilience.

Remy Biggs was presented with the Antje Lemke Book Award. The recognition is named for Professor Emerita Antje Lemke, and it recognizes an outstanding student in the master’s Library and Information Science program who exhibits a passion for learning and dedication to service.

Akshay Sanjay Bagde was honored with the Graduate Leadership Award. The award is given by the iSchool to an outstanding Graduate student who demonstrates all around excellence as a student, made contributions to the school through service on committees or in student organizations, and who serves as a role model for other students.
