The Fall Career Fair at the School of Information Studies (iSchool), held on Wednesday, September 27 in the Carrier Dome, was the largest career event hosted by the School to date.

Over 100 employers were in attendance, representing a wide range of global and local corporations, and were recruiting students for both internships as well as full-time positions. More than 20 of the recruiters at the event were iSchool alumni themselves, returning to campus to interview and meet with the next generation of talent.

Attracting both graduates and undergraduates, the fair broke attendance records, with over 570 students attending during the fair’s five-hour time slot in the Dome.

“It was very exciting to see weeks of on-campus and virtual company engagements with iSchool students culminate with such a well-attended career fair,” said Sarah Weber, Director of Employer Relations at the iSchool. “It is wonderful to have the opportunity for students to meet with a wide range of industry representatives – especially our alumni who return to campus specifically to recruit at this event.”

“We work closely with industry partners to ensure that there is strong alignment between the knowledge the students gain through coursework and experiential learning opportunities, and the needs of industry,” Weber noted. “We appreciate the collaborative relationships we have with our industry partners that allow us to prepare students for roles with them, both now and in the future.”

The iSchool boasts a 92% job placement rate (2016 data) for undergraduate students, as well as one of the highest starting salaries on campus for those students, at nearly $65,000. Over a third of undergraduate students credit iSchool career fairs and campus recruiting events for their success for landing the first job after graduation.

Since the start of the semester, the iSchool’s dedicated Career Services Office has hosted a number of events and preparation workshops to help students get ready for their time with recruiters.

“We work hard at preparing our students to ensure their resumes and elevator pitches are polished with numerous workshops and class visits,” explained Christopher Perrello, the iSchool’s Director of Career Services. “It’s a really great feeling to see our labor come into fruition on the day of the career fair when our students shine. The commitment and drive are totally worth it, especially when students stop by my office later in the semester and share their offer letters with me - that is the most fantastic form of repayment for our work.”
