CAPM Certification Exam Workshop Scheduled

A study workshop for the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification exam has been scheduled this fall, and will begin on Saturday, September 23.

This workshop was designed by PMI in collaboration with the School of Information Studies (iSchool), and is tailored specifically for students who have taken, or are presently taking, a semester project management course, such as IST 345-445 / IST645, or SCM456 / SCM656, or another college-level introductory project management course.

Classes will meet weekly through November 11 (with the exception of the weekend of the iSchool’s Graduate Immersion Milestone Seminar on September 30) from 10:00 AM to Noon in Hinds Hall 120.

Instruction is provided by PMI certified Project Management Professionals from the local Syracuse Chapter of PMI, and the workshop will prepare students for taking the latest exam version offered by PMI.

The CAPM certification is designed for students and working professionals with either no, or less than three years of, project management experience.

“This certification is recognized by many employers as a sign that you know the fundamental information about managing projects, and that you are serious about a future in project management as a career,” said Art Thomas, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the iSchool. “It is a step toward the PMP certification, which is designed for professional project managers with three or more years of experience. So, the CAPM is a great way to get started in the field, and many of our students have found it valuable in obtaining employment.”

“This workshop is not required in order to become certified,” Thomas added, “but students have found that this workshop greatly helped them to prepare for, and pass, the CAPM exam.”

Although the course is hosted and facilitated by the iSchool, it is not an official Syracuse University course. A course fee of $125.00 includes participants’ exam study guide and the fee for the workshop sessions. The fee is due no later than the first class session, and students must also join the national PMI in order to attend this workshop. Full-time students can join PMI for $32.

Upon completing the workshop, students will need to register on their own to take the CAPM Certification Exam at a nearby location through separate procedures, and an exam fee is paid separately at that time.
