Board of Advisors Member/Alumnus Speaking to Students February 27

Jason Mills, director of Big Data Technology and Analytics at JP Morgan Chase, and an alumnus of the School of Information Studies who has served on its Board of Advisors since 2005, will be a guest speaker here on Friday, February 27.

Jason MillsHIs talk, being hosted by the School’s iBranch organization and the student chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery, begins at 2:00 PM in Room 117 at Hinds Hall.  A reception and refreshments will follow until 4:00 PM.

The iSchool alumnus has 18 years of experience delivering innovative technology solutions to Fortune 100 companies. He has worked for several major corporations in executive technology capacities in the United States and abroad. Mills has served at JPMorgan Chase as vice president of infrastructure technology (2007-2010), director of end user technology and innovation (2010 – 2012), director, consumer bank innovation (2012-2014) and now leads and operates big data initiatives across both corporate and product lines of business,

Prior to his time at JPMorgan Chase, Mills was a vice president at Citibank (1998-2000), where he managed the Europe, Middle East, and Africa implementation of a multi-protocol data and voice network, an $800 million global contract. After that, he worked in the Netherlands for Citigroup as country head of technology for Citibank and Smith Barney, where he was responsible for all technology platforms and operations. He then moved on to Smith Barney, spending almost two years as head of trading tech, where he led a team of 100-plus workers. That team was focused on desktop and network infrastructure management for 500 retail and corporate branches in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Following his time there, Mills became Citigroup’s global head of risk tech, responsible for all compliance and technology contingency operations in its asset management division, before joining JPMorgan Chase.

As an entrepreneur, Mills has started several companies in various industries and continues to create entrepreneurial ventures. He also is co-founder of BLISTS Inc., a non-profit organization specializing in technology and economic development in underdeveloped communities.

Mills earned a bachelor’s degree in information management and technology from the iSchool in 1995, and a master’s degree in telecommunications and network management in 1996. While a student, he co-founded the Black and Latino Information Studies Support Group (BLISTS). He has served on the iSchool Board of Advisors since for the past 10 years, and also is a member of the Kaufmann Foundation Enitiative Board.
