Request More Information

The intersection of information and expression.

Whether you’re an aspiring media professional looking to understand emerging technologies or a budding data scientist wanting to effectively communicate your research, a dual major with the iSchool and the Newhouse School of Public Communications is a powerful asset.

Along with the iSchool’s major in Information Management & Technology (IM&T), you’ll pick one of the following majors from Newhouse:

  • Advertising
  • Broadcast & Digital Journalism
  • Graphic Design
  • Magazine
  • Newspaper & Online Journalism
  • Photography
  • Public Relations
  • Television, Radio & Film

When you graduate, you’ll have one diploma conferred jointly by the two schools — and a robust blend of skills to launch you into your career.

Students interested in deepening their understanding of communications and information technology can select one of the following Newhouse majors, in addition to completing the information management and technology major at the School of Information Studies.

  • Advertising
  • Broadcast & Digital Journalism
  • Graphic Design
  • Magazine
  • Newspaper & Online Journalism
  • Photography
  • Public Relations
  • Television, Radio & Film

Students dually enrolled in the School of Information Studies and a Newhouse School program must fulfill the major requirements of both schools. Upon graduating, they receive a bachelor’s degree (one diploma) conferred jointly by the two schools.

Students may apply directly to the dual programs as incoming first-year students or may add the dual as a current student, after completion of the dual-degree admission requirements.

New communications professionals understand the need to be savvy in emerging technologies, and many aspiring professionals enroll in the dual-degree program in Information Management & Technology and one of the majors offered through the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, a nationally recognized educator of journalists, advertising agents, and other communications professionals.
